Uitgeverij De Lamiis

The name ‘De Lamiis’ refers to the book De Lamiis Liber or ‘Book on Witches’ written by Johannes Wier in 1577, who advocated against the witch hunts during the Age of Enlightenment. He published several books on witches and was one of the first writers rejecting the dominant work on witches, Malleus Maleficarum or ‘The Hammer of Witches’.

Wier’s work has been very influential in banishing the prosecutions for witchcraft. For De Lamiis Liber he kept publishing new versions of the book, by constantly adding his new discoveries on the subject matter and kept it up to date for as long as he could. This however made him loose his permit as a doctor in 1578.
